About this model

Just add your livery and render, it’s that easy.

The 1987 Group A VL SS Holden Commodore was a highly successful racing car that competed in the Australian touring car racing championship, known as the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC), and the endurance races such as the Bathurst 1000.

The car was built by the Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) division of General Motors Holden, and it was based on the production version of the Holden Commodore VL SS. The Group A specification required the use of production-based engines and chassis, but allowed modifications to improve performance and handling.

Under the hood, the 1987 Group A VL SS Holden Commodore was powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that was modified to produce approximately 500 horsepower. The car featured a five-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential, as well as upgraded brakes and suspension.

The exterior of the car was also modified for racing, with a front splitter, side skirts, and a large rear wing that provided additional downforce. The car’s body was made from lightweight materials such as carbon fiber and kevlar to reduce weight and improve performance.

The 1987 Group A VL SS Holden Commodore was a dominant force in the Australian touring car racing championship, winning both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ championships in 1987. The car also won the Bathurst 1000 endurance race in the hands of drivers Peter Brock and Jim Richards.

The success of the 1987 Group A VL SS Holden Commodore helped establish the Holden brand as a leader in Australian motorsport, and the car is still highly regarded by racing enthusiasts today.
